The Name

Our company carries the name of Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) which is a highly branched, herbaceous, annual thistle. Plants have globular flower heads (capitula) and commonly, brilliant yellow to orange flowers.  Safflower has its origins in Asia and is one of the most ancient agricultural crops.

 

The flowers are used to manufacture yellow to brown dyes. Further, it produces oil which is used in the varnish industry. Safflower oil is also demanded for organic foods. 

In Chinese herbal medicine, this plant is called Hong Hua and is used in patterns of blood stasis: With its slightly warm and slightly acrid flavour it disperses the 'red', such as it enters the blood level.

 

It is harmonious but yet its effect on the movement of blood is rapid and hence stasis is transformed and pain is stopped. An indirect effect of the gentle harmonising nature of Hong Hua is soothing constraints of liver.
